And We're Back

It's great to be here.

Over the past couple of days, the urge to start blogging again has been growing and growing. Previous posts appear on my timehop very frequently around this time of year due to the upcoming anniversary of the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games; so what a time to be back.

My dearest readers, it sure has been a crazy few years since university has been a massive part of my life and so much as happened. I'm thinking of some bullet-points to summarise it all...

  • My written work; the area i thought i'd be tragically bad at, has improved every single time with every assignment which is incredible. This area has seen the biggest improvement since being at Bath Spa i believe.
  • I started university with a boyfriend that I adored that helped to make 1st year what it was, we aren't together anymore and that's, ok. It was a great chapter and as they do, they finish so the next one can begin.
  • I directed a condensed 10 minutes or so of a play called 'Pronoun' by Evan Placey as part of the Directing module in which i learnt what an actor needs from a director and vice-versa. That has been one of my favourite journeys so far - the cast I had brought the play to life in a beautiful way and I learned a lot about directing. I've used the lessons learned here in other work for sure.
  • The second term of 2nd year saw me work with 11 other artists in the Actor Creator module that culminated in a night of original work of very high quality. The intimacy of the class was vital in creating and protecting the safe environment we need to create our own work and help find our style / voice. 'Freedom' was the story of Yeomni-Park and her family of how they escaped North Korea, I eventually took this work to a fringe festival which was a great experience.
  • I've worked with some great visiting theatre companies and participated in a couple of TV workshops which have been super helpful and handy!
  • The Shakespeare project of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' was taste of the professional expectations that are required of us upon our return in September. I directed a scene which had the whole company in (including myself) which was the greatest challenge i have faced since beginning the course. It wasn't easy but i was very happy with how it turned out as well as how Company 1 started the show off.
  • I have a qualifications in Rapier & Dagger, Rapier & Gauntlet, Broadsword and Knife stage combat which has been a ridiculous amount of fun, I hope to get on to the advanced summer course next year to further my skills in that area.
  • Now, next year sees me at the very least being in a sitcom, making a sitcom, learning stand-up, practicing auditioning, performing in a directed play, taking part in a rehearsed reading, making or collaborating a work of our choice at the end of the year as well as any additional projects that we may want to be involved in. Oh, and the dissertation ohhhh the dissertation we can't forget about that.
  • I am the Area Champion for Bath & Bristol for Costa's Barista of the Year competition which is bloody nuts! I now go on to compete with other champions from the South-West in Leamington Spa i think.
So a lot has been experienced and achieved and there is still so much to enjoy!

This has been a glimpse of that has been going on with me, other posts can now have other content in which I don't talk about myself for the whole thing!

It's great to be back with you all, and i can't wait to start talking to you again.

Until next time.

Look Ahead

Inspired by northern gypsy's  latest post, i've for no reason decided to write what I want my immediate future to be like, along with how it could go wrong.. just so ya'll downers don't think im being 'unrealistic.'

I wan't you to listen to a song that reminds you of the best summer you've had or a song that reminds you of summer..

  • I want to play rounders with my friends in the park in the summer, chat on the grass and listen to music <3
  • Make the most of my current adorable friends while i still have them, before uni, work and life take them away for a while <3
  • South Africa for a month please with Sophie Lowe <3
  • Turn 18 and celebrate it with the people that matter most to me <3
  • Train myself further, especially my voice <3
  • Be in shows and keep involved in the arts <3
  • Not have work over through and get in the way of life <3
That's my ideal immediate future. We have to grow up so fast these days, it's awful when you get to 17 and realise that childhood is nearly over, i know when i turn 18, it'll feel like the end of the carefree world where biggest worries where what color to use next and what you'll teacher do because you didn't do your homework. It's scary, but exciting because a whole new chapter in the book of Liam will begin in just under 6 months time..

Now I could end up working and not living, letting distance get in between friendships, have the worst summer, not go to the other side of the world and not live but i can't let that happen, even now it's 'you need to work more' and  'you'll probably never see me again when we leave.'

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You may even be going to uni this September / October which is just 7 / 8 months away. You've only gotta look at where we're at in February now and realise that the time will fly away. Good luck to you uni folk, you're excited, scared, brave and cool people for being able to uproot yourself and move to a different place at 18, i couldn't do it just yet. We may be out on friday nights getting crunked, or staying up late with friends on the beach, but you'll have cheap SUs and uni life to experience (good or bad thing is up to you!)

It's YOUR life, YOU make the choices.

2010 Is Over, If You Want It.

It really annoys me that every time I start to write one of these that i have to change the font, as i don't like the default. I much prefer this one =]

Anyway I very much digress. Here we are ladies and gentlemen, 2010 is days away from ending, this year will never happen again as it passes into the ever growing pages of history. What has this year done to/for you?

2010 has been a strange year for me. A kind of 'nothing special, but it's all the little things' kind of year. When i look back, i've done some amazing things. I've performed in Billy Elliot both in Brighton and the Victoria Palace - London! Which was like a dream come true, as I want to be a performer, i never thought I would be able to say;

"I performed on a West End stage at the age of 16"

I mean you get children who do it everyday, but thats only because they have pushy parents, but for me it was truly magical.

Also, performing in other college shows, but noticeably a show which battled the elements and took on what ever could be thrown at it. It's A Wonderful Life.

9 original performances cancelled, a lead who couldn't perform at the last minute, trouble recasting and a performer who left college on opening night.

Yes, it was worse than it looks but we performed 4 times and had a ball. I loved being in the show and performing with my friends, it's such a shame that we were cut short, we didn't deserve it one little bit but alas fate chose our path for whatever reason.

To finish, Im actually fairly nervous about what 2011 will bring me. I leave college, a place that has changed evolved me into a stronger performer, a better person and someone who knows that they can have what they want. You just have to believe you can do it. I start drama school auditions as well as trying out for one uni, which in its self opens a whole new chapter in my life and can change it forever. Next year can can go either way for me, I sense that there will be no in between feeling like this year, I'll either love the year or it will be a complete train wreck. 2010 Is Over, If You Want It.

Lost With No Direction

Ok, so let me tell you what's been going round and round and round and round on my head lately.

It's so unclear that I cant even listen to music while typing this or list what's going on, in a list.

Basically, with people getting their results and stuff, and how hard people are having to fight to get in to a uni or wherever, im thinking

" is higher education something i really wanna consider? "

I'm talking about rising tuition fee's and shrinking uni course places people! The fight is only going to get tougher as the years go by, so even taking a gap year in 2011 will be a mistake, as i'll return to EVEN HARDER fighting. Not sure i wanna do that.

Now since the release of results i've been thinking is all the possible debt gained from uni worth it? I've heard so many sides from it.

" Yes you should still fight for a place, as someone with a degree is more likely to earn more money "

" Students should maybe consider if they actually need to go somewhere to study. The Open University offers great courses and you end up with the same qualification but without the debt "

Ergh.

... I was typing something, but then was going to delete it. My browser the closed. I thought i lost this whole post. I panicked for a sec. Then remembered that it's autosaved. Phew.

So yeah, after a sleepless night i still don't know what to do.

I have even thought of creating my own theatre company specialising in Improvisation and Physical Theatre. Which i'd love to do.

So yeah, crazy me, no direction for the future atm and yeah...
